This recent poll was taken from the Gallup Poll on July 10-12 2009. This poll shows that Americans have returned to a tougher stance when it comes to the issue of immigration. According to the poll, a year ago approximately 39% of Americans believed that immigration reform should be decreased. This number has jumped to half of Americans (50%) this current year. A year ago 39% of Americans said immigration should be kept the same which has steadily decreased to 32% in the current year. And only 14% say that immigration should be increased which has dropped from 18% a year ago.
Probably the most surprising change has come in the view of republicans. Last year 46% of republicans believed immigration should be decreased which has risen to 61%. Democrats and independents views have also risen in favor of less immigration.
Another surprising finding is that in the current year 58% of Americans believe that immigration is a good thing while only 36% say it is a bad thing.
One thing that hasn't changed so much is the fact that Westerners are the strongest among regions that believe immigration should be stricter.
Many potential causes could have changed Americans view on the issue of immigration. One of the biggest is the fact that our economy is struggling creating larger more significant problems to worry about than immigration. However, those mostly affected like citizens of California, New Mexico, and Arizona still believe it is a prominent issue.
This poll shows that Americans are involved and informed and are able to make their own opinion. In the future the debate over immigration reform will be much more complicated. Americans of all political affiliations have shifted toward the anti immigration movement. If this continues it could create harmony for many people of different ethnic backgrounds or could, as some people see, just be adding fuel to the fire.

Immigration
I'm Joe Cassidy and i have chosen the issue of immigration. This is a major problem America faces which also gives way to many other problems. Over-population, border control and security, the issue of covering illegals in the new potential healthcare system, as well as the increasingly difficulty it is to find a job for most Americans while immigrants are doing them for much less money. Most these illegal immigrants also fail to pay state and federal income taxes however, continue to use the services provided by both the state and federal government. This is a difficult issue which many Americans have an opinion on and for good reason.
